Remember us in your will

By including a gift to the Charity in your Will you will help us support dental students, dentists and their families in the future. Contributions cost nothing now and you can do so by writing a new Will or amending an existing one.

We have put together a guide to help you. Request our Gifts in Wills guide.

The following video explains more:

Why leave us a gift in your will?

The founders of the BDA Benevolent Fund recognised a need to support those in the profession who fall on hard times and set up the Charity in 1883, to do just that. No one thought it would still be in existence 140 years later.

However, demand for financial and wellbeing support has increased hugely since the COVID-19 pandemic and we’re helping more people than ever before. We are also keen to ensure that we offer more holistic and preventative support and in the last few years have developed additional services to help the dental profession become more financially and emotionally resilient.

How are we funded?

Over 50% of our income is made up of voluntary sources – for example individual dentists sending us one off or regular contributions, gifts in Wills, fundraising at events and BDA branches and section meetings. We also receive a huge level of support from Local Dental Committees (LDCs) across the UK and occasionally some donations from dental or financial companies that work with dentists.

We are independent of the British Dental Association and do not receive funding from them directly or through membership subscriptions. You do not need to be a BDA member to seek support from us. The other 50% of our income are returns from our investment portfolio, set up a long time ago to provide a regular and ongoing source of funding.

Our aim is to raise £50,000 in legacy pledges each year to be able to ensure we can support dental students and their families now and in the future.

How do we help?

We proactively support the financial and emotional needs of dental students, dentists, and their dependents.
