Your Support is Needed More Than Ever
Local Dental Committee (LDC) donations make up, on average, 63% of the BDA Benevolent Fund’s annual donated income.
Without this vital support, we could not continue helping dental students, dentists, and their families through financial and personal crises.
Unfortunately, 59% of LDCs have not yet contributed to the Charity so far this year. This is having a huge impact as our voluntary income is down 30% on 2024 and 21% below the five-year average.

“Over 50 LDCs haven’t yet donated this year and it’s a worrying situation suggesting the financial climate of dentistry is negatively impacting our community.”
says Laura Hannon, CEO.
At the same time, we’re seeing record numbers of applications for financial support. This may become our biggest year for grant giving on record.

This combination of falling voluntary donation income and rising need is putting huge pressure on our ability to respond to dental students, dentists, and their families who need us.

“We urge everyone in the dental community to consider how they might help and support colleagues going through difficult times.”
says Molly Deykin, Co-Chair
“We’re hugely grateful to the 36 LDCs who have already contributed this year. Your generosity makes a huge difference.”
If you’re LDC isn’t among those listed here, there’s still time to make a difference.

“If my Local Dental Committee wasn’t on the list”
adds Shafaq Ali, Co-Chair
“I’d be asking them how we might help. Every contribution counts.”
At the LDC Conference, Trustee Peter Crooks’ presentation about our work inspired record donations. When people learn about the tangible impact of the Charity, they want to get involved.

“It always surprises me if I meet someone in dentistry who hasn’t heard of the Benevolent Fund,
says Peter
“The conference showed that awareness leads directly to support and support changes lives.”
As we prepare for 2026, we’re making a final plea to all LDCs to help sustain this vital work.
Please consider contributing, perhaps as part of your own festive fundraising efforts.
