How we have helped
Newly qualified dentist, Falkirk
Graduation from dental school presented its own financial challenges
Once I graduated from dental school, ironically it was one of the most difficult periods for me to manage financially. I was left with a 3-month gap from the SASS [Student Awards Agency Scotland] payment and although I had a job offer, I didn’t have the money to relocate and take the job. Luckily a dentist friend of mine had heard of the BDA Benevolent Fund and I got in touch to see if they could help.
The application process was very smooth, and I was impressed by how quickly it was turned around. The supporting advice I was given was brilliant. I received a £2000 grant which does not need to be repaid. It helped with my rent, relocation costs, and registration fee putting me firmly on the career ladder. I don’t think it would have been possible to make the transition from dental student to dentist without financial help from somewhere.
I’m so grateful to the BDA Benevolent Fund. I didn’t have any parental financial support and the University was unable to help.
