How we have helped
My life was upside down for 16 years due to suffering with addiction. I was financially ruined. I had heard of the BDA Benevolent Fund, but it took me two years to reach out to them. I was very sick and was no longer able to have any meaningful relationship with my colleagues, friends and family. It wasn’t until I was in rehab and had started to work on my mental health and recovery that I felt I could face having an honest conversation about my finances. I was getting help via the British Doctors and Dentists Group (BDDG) who also mentioned that the Charity could help.
I don’t think I could have survived without the assistance of the BDA Benevolent Fund – it was invaluable in keeping my family together as I had a wife and young children to support. The fact that they listened made me feel valued.
The application process was simple, and I appreciated the visits. I was having little personal interaction with anyone at that point and although I was anxious, it gave me focus. I tidied the house and bought cakes for The Ben Fund associates visit! The visit was of great benefit for someone like me with addiction issues who had suffered from years of isolationism. It helped me start to rebuild my life.
The Charity were compassionate and dealt with everything in a timely fashion. I remain extremely grateful for the support I received from them during those years.
